Get to the bottom of this

Yesterday, we spent some time establishing a new one-rep max on our Snatch, and if you plan on attending class today, the first portion of the class will be working on your Clean and Jerk. What becomes tricky about these two movements is catching the barbell in the bottom of the squat.

Both yesterday and today, I’ve had people ask whether or not they should catch their lift in a full squat. My response was simply that they didn’t have to, but if they wanted to really establish a new record on either lift that they should go as heavy as they can. And catching the barbell in the squat position would allow them to do just that – because the athlete is only moving the weight up so far and shrugging themselves underneath it.

However, the very act of shrugging underneath the bar becomes just a tad bit scary as the weight climbs. As a result, I thought I would post one of Starrett’s famous MobilityWODs to help all our AMRAPers with the bottom of their squat and continue to build confidence. Enjoy getting to the bottom of this one, guys.
