Although a lot of the inner workings of the competition are based on the workouts themselves (e.g. time, heat designations, etc.), there are some details that will be concrete throughout the following five weeks:
Our regularly scheduled “Metcon Fridays” will be replaced for the next five weeks with the Open WODs. All members, regardless of whether they are participating in the Open or not, are welcome to perform the workouts.
Athletes participating in the Open will be able to perform the workout at any of our five classes throughout the day. Those members completing the Open workout at the 5:30 a.m., 9 a.m., or 12 p.m. classes are asked to pre-register for the session; however, they are not required to sign up for a designated heat time.
Those athletes wishing to participate in our Friday Night Lights event will be asked to sign-up for heat time prior to their arrival. Members will be able to register for a heat on our Google document. Those athletes that fail to sign-up for a heat will be issued a spot in the first available heat. The Google document will be released by 10 p.m. on Thursday evenings. The sheet will be accessible through the AMRAP Community page on Facebook as well as our main website on the blog.
Participants will be able to complete the Open WOD Friday at 5:30 a.m. through Monday at 7:30 p.m. Athletes are able to do the workouts more than once; however, only the first score will count towards their given team. The reason for this change from previous years is to treat the Open like a true competition and/or game where the athlete only has one opportunity to perform his/her best. (Please note, that if you are signed up for the CrossFit Games Open you are more than welcome to perform the workout as many times as you would like to better your score.)
Two (or three) athletes will be chosen each week to go head-to-head during our Friday Night Lights event. These athletes will be chosen per their given coaches’ recommendation as well as their availability. Athletes will not be chosen at random.
The athletes (as well as two potential back-up participants) will be announced by 10 p.m. on Thursday evening on the Community page as well as the blog on the CrossFit AMRAP website. The first chosen athletes will have until 10 a.m. on Friday to accept their nomination for the head-to-head competition. Otherwise, the back-up athlete will be asked to perform.
Each week, members will be chosen from one of the following categories:
- Week 1: Veteran Open Athletes
- Week 2: Masters’ Athletes
- Week 3: Newbie Open Athletes
- Week 4: Coaches
- Week 5: Team Pick!
Please note that only members that signed up for the head-to-head competition will be asked to compete. If you would like the chance to participate, please contact Brittany at firstname.lastname@example.org
In terms of the leaderboard, the scoring will be done similar to that of the CrossFit Open. Athletes will receive points based on their individual placing. For example, if “Athlete A” were to have the best score for males in the gym for 17.1, then his score after the first week would be “1”. If the same athlete were to place 7th in WOD 17.2, his score after the second week would then be “8”. The team with the least amount of points at the end of the 5 weeks wins.
Rx versus Scaled Divisions. Rx scores will be ranked first and then the Scaled division. If, for example, “Athlete B” has the top Scaled score for the week then s/he would be listed after all the Rx scores have been calculated.
Masters Division. Within the CrossFit Open itself, there are several Masters Divisions (e.g. 35-39, 40-44, etc.). Masters will complete the WOD as described within their current age division as either Rx or Scaled. Like the Individual division, Scaled scores will be ranked in order below all of the Rx scores.
For some masters age divisions, the prescribed workouts will be the same as the prescribed workouts for the Individual divisions. Masters athletes who perform these prescribed workouts will be ranked relative to individual athletes on the overall Leaderboard.
Score Submission. As a way to mimic the CrossFit Open, we are requiring that all athletes enter their scores on the given Google spreadsheet by Monday at 10 p.m. each week. Scores will then be validated online by our coaches. Late scores will receive a “0”.
This spreadsheet will be available on Thursday evening at 10 p.m. Please contact Brittany at email@example.com if you are having difficulty submitting your score(s).
