Yesterday we did a Tabata workout. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Tabata, its eight rounds per movement of twenty seconds of work and then ten seconds of rest.
The movements in yesterday’s WOD included sit ups, pull ups, box jumps, and burpees. There was forty seconds of rest in between in each movement, and the athletes’ score was the sum of the lowest number of reps that the athlete completed during their eight intervals. Meaning, for example, if the athlete did seven rounds of eight pull ups and then did two pull ups on his last interval, his score than was two. (Yes, bummer.)
The possibility of receiving a low score after doing well in all the other intervals made this workout even more difficult. It was mentally challenging because this type of scoring forced everyone to think about the WOD. They were required to figure out the best way to be consistent, and maintain throughout the duration of the workout in order to achieve a good score.
As it turns out though, we have some smart cookies at the gym and everyone was able to figure out the best way to get their score in the specified range. Awesome work, guys!
…Ugh. I shouldn’t have mentioned cookies. Now I want one…
